Up2Us Connects at Gadhaba Meet and Greet Gathering

Last Monday, Kim and Rhiannon from Up2Us had the pleasure of attending the Gadhaba Local Aboriginal Network's Meet and Greet Gathering at the Railway Station Precinct in Mansfield. The event, which featured a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony followed by a barbeque dinner, provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with both familiar faces and new community members in a culturally rich setting.

"We had a brilliant time," shared Rhiannon. "The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was genuinely welcoming. It was special to experience the the Welcome to Country in such a thoughtfully designed space."

A highlight of the evening was when respected Elder and Gadhaba member Aunty Angela Tenbuurin gave an overview of the network's journey over the years. Her presentation illuminated both the achievements and challenges, giving guests a deeper understanding of Gadhaba's operations and impact within the community.

The presentation also offered an exciting glimpse into Gadhaba's future aspirations. Aunty Angela outlined upcoming projects aimed at strengthening cultural education, supporting Aboriginal youth, and expanding the use of the Gathering Place as a hub for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community members.

For Up2Us representatives, attending events like this strengthens vital community relationships and deepens understanding of local Aboriginal culture and heritage. The gathering exemplified what 'Gadhaba' truly means – coming together in respect and celebration.
