Resilient water systems

The Resilient Water Systems on Farm demonstration project aims to collect data to monitor how wind movement across dams is affected by vegetation and how this impacts on water loss and quality. Dams monitored as part of this project will be selected from across the Mansfield farming landscape all with differing levels of vegetation and stock access.

Baseline readings were conducted across all participating dams in October 2020, landholders were trained on how to use the monitoring equipment ready for monthly monitoring commencing in November. With assistance from Australian Universities Sustainable Farms organisation we hope to analyze the dam monitoring data collected to better understand the effects of climate, vegetation and stock access on water quality and dam health.

With financial assistance from Up2Us Landcare Alliance landholders taking part in this program have had the opportunity to fence, install off-dam water supplies and revegetate around their dams.

In the below video Ag Vics Greg Bekker discusses the importance of understanding how much water you hold on your property.
