Our history

While Mansfield's natural beauty - from alpine ranges to river systems and grassland valleys - has long attracted people to our region, it's also created growing pressure on these precious environments. Just 180km from Melbourne, our population of over 10,000 continues to grow at nearly double the regional Victorian average, driven by tree-changers seeking a natural lifestyle.

Up2Us Landcare Alliance was born in 2008 to meet these changing needs. Building on the legacy of local Landcare groups established in the late 1980s and early 1990s, we recognised that our growing community needed a fresh, coordinated approach to environmental care. By bringing together existing Landcare groups and welcoming new members, we created a stronger, united voice for environmental action in our region.

Today, we work alongside government and community organisations across the Mansfield Shire, tackling environmental challenges through:

  • Practical support for landholders

  • Waterway health initiatives

  • Tree planting programs

  • Community and school education

  • Pest plant and animal management

Our collaborative approach helps protect the natural assets that make Mansfield special, ensuring they continue to thrive for generations to come.
