“Our Biggest Ever National Tree Planting Day” was a huge success with 60 students on the Schools day and 65 people on the Sunday coming to assist with planting and mulching.
“Fords Creek was a hive of activity and a real social outing on Sunday” said Kerstie Lee, organiser of National Tree Day. We had people of all ages come and assist in the planting and it demonstrated how much the people of Mansfield care about their environment.
Andrew Setchell the President of the new Fords Creek Landcare Group was heard saying “I never thought we would get down so much mulch. It was great to see all the children working alongside adults of all ages. I was really pleased to be a part of the action”.
Fords Creek has been a focus of much activity over the last few years and we can see the difference in how the creek is viewed. This work has been progressed further after a Fords Creek meeting a year ago when the people of the town wanted Fords Creek to be the ‘Yarra of Mansfield’.
The new Fords Creek Landcare Group are committed to the continual improvement of the Creek and Up2Us looks forward to working with the group for further National Tree Days.
A special thank you goes out to Mansfield Shire Council for the time and mulch they supplied free of charge; Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority for the plants supplied; Mansfield and District Community Bank for the finances to purchase equipment and cater for the event and the Girl Guides Mansfield division for coming along and supporting the event.
Well done everyone!!
